about us
At Dye~Works, we continue the ancient craft of natural dyeing — a tradition rooted in the earth’s gifts and passed through generations. Using roots, flowers, plants, insects, and food scraps, we capture nature’s colors with time-honored methods.
This craft honors the natural world, reminding us of our deep connection to it. Humans have been using natural pigments and dyes for millennia, with evidence dating back to prehistoric cave paintings. Minerals, plants, and animals provided the first pigments as early as 40,000 years ago.
The earliest records of dyeing textiles date to 2000 BCE, in places like Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the Indus Valley. These ancient cultures used indigo, madder, saffron, and cochineal to color fabrics. Across the world, natural dyeing endures as one of humanity’s oldest traditions.
In our studio, we do not just create colors — we preserve a heritage. Each hue is made through sustainable methods, free of synthetic chemicals and harmful practices. By working with what nature offers, we reduce waste and tread lightly on the earth, keeping ecosystems intact for future generations.
We invite others to learn through hands-on workshops, private consultations, and bespoke dye services.
